A Prayer for a Job
Job hunting is rejection with admin attached. Whether you've just been let go or you're forty applications deep, this prayer is for the search.
Lord, You know what we need and You know who's hiring. Open the right door, keep my hope alive through the silence, and provide for us in the meantime. Amen.
A fuller prayer
Father, work is Your idea, and I want to do mine. You see the applications that vanish, the interviews that go nowhere, the arithmetic at the kitchen table. Lead me to the role where I'm useful — not just hired, useful. Give me diligence for the search, honesty in the interviews, and thick enough skin for the rejections that aren't about me. Provide for the gap: the bills, the groceries, the pride. And guard me from measuring my worth in someone else's shortlist — I was worth Your Son before I had a title. Open a door, Lord, and I'll walk through it working. Amen.
Scripture to hold on to
“Establish for us the work of our hands — yes, establish the work of our hands.”
PSALM 90:17 · BSB
“Look at the birds of the air: they do not sow or reap or gather into barns — and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
MATTHEW 6:26 · BSB
“Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men.”
COLOSSIANS 3:23 · BSB
How to pray this
Pray before you open the laptop, then send the applications anyway — provision and effort are teammates in scripture. Ask friends to pray for specific interviews by date; specific prayers make faithful friends.
Don’t carry this alone
The chain is small and forming — which means your request won't be lost in a crowd. Real people will pray this with you, for your situation, by name — and you’ll see each one happen.
Ask the chain to pray with youOr join free and pray for others — praying earns prayers.
Common questions
Is it selfish to pray about a job?
Jesus taught 'give us this day our daily bread' — work and provision are square in the middle of ordinary prayer. Bring it.
What do I do about discouragement between rejections?
Tell God plainly, keep a routine, and let others pray with you. Discouragement shared is discouragement halved.
