A Prayer for Safe Travel

"Traveling mercies" is one of the church's oldest goodbyes. This is that prayer, for whoever's journey is on your mind — including your own.

Lord, watch over this journey — every mile, every driver, every delay. Bring them there safely, and bring them home. Amen.

A fuller prayer

Father, You watch over our coming and going, so watch over this journey now. Give alertness to the drivers and the pilots, patience at the delays, and protection through every stretch we can't control. Keep the goodbye at the door from being heavier than it needs to be. Travel with them the whole way — You've never once needed a seat — and let the phone buzz with 'landed safe' at the other end. And on every journey, Lord, remind us of the longer one home to You. Amen.
